Spring Break in Fremont

This week I'm traveling with a group from the Portland Metro to Fremont, California where we will spend the week doing various activities with the Afghani community there.  Fremont is home to somewhere between 40,000 - 60,000 Afghani people, making it the largest concentration of Afghanis outside Afghanistan.  The women in our group will be teaching English to Afghani women, and the men in our group will be doing the same with men.  We will also be engaging in various cultural exchange activities.

I'm super excited about the trip.  We leave at 5am in the morning, which means I'm off to bed as soon as I finish putting some new tunes on the ipod.  Tomorrow entails a 13-hour drive, and I'm hoping for lots of sunshine!

So, watch The Kite Runner this week and think of the Afghani people and their journey.  Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers.
